Producing hybrid vehicles is one piece of GM’s three-part strategy to improve fuel economy and reduce vehicle emissions, along with improving the efficiency of the traditional internal combustion engine and developing hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. GM is applying hybrid technology to high-volume and high fuel consuming vehicles first to save as many gallons of fuel as possible and ultimately plans to build 12 different hybrid vehicle models.

Hybrid GMC Yukon

The 2008 GMC Yukon Hybrid, featuring the world's first two-mode hybrid propulsion system in an SUV, will offer consumers a 25-percent improvement in overall fuel economy when it arrives at dealerships toward the end of next year.By utilizing innovative hybrid technology and Active Fuel Management™ cylinder deactivation technology, the Yukon Hybrid will deliver a spectacular combination of fuel efficiency and power, while maintaining the capabilities of a full-size SUV.

 
Hybrid Chevrolet Avalanche
Chevrolet Avalanche is one rugged truck. Even better, Avalanche’s strength is achieved with remarkably frugal fuel consumption and, when equipped as a FlexFuel model, significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. That’s the result of two innovations . The first is standard on all Avalanche engines – Active Fuel Management™. It enables the 320 horsepower Vortec 5.3L V8 to operate on four or eight cylinders , depending on the power demanded. And on 4x4 models, the engine includes FlexFuel capabilities, allowing it to run on gasoline or E85 – 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. So you can run off-road and be fuelled by the terrain in more ways than one

AFM Active Fuel Management Chevy Impala
The Impala was selected by Environment Canada to highlight the environmental benefit possible from the flex fuel Chevrolet Impala powered by ethanol and specifically cellulosic-ethanol. When operating on cellulose based ethanol, the Chevrolet Impala has a net CO 2 footprint that is less than any vehicle sold by any automaker in North America.
 
Flexfuel GMC Savana
Durable and a smooth, comfortable ride. The 2WD and AWD ½-ton vans are available in both cargo and passenger models and comes equipped with StabiliTrak. Multiple upfit packages available.
 
Flexfuel Chevrolet Uplander

Flexfuel Saturn Vue
Saturn debuts the GM hybrid system in the 2008 VUE Green Line. This hybrid gets an estimated 32* miles per gallon and still delivers a seamless driving experience. In short, the engine pauses when you break, the hybrid battery boosts power when you accelerate and charges when you decelerate or drive at cruising speeds. To improve aerodynamics and reduce rolling resistance, we added a rear spoiler and tires designed specifically for efficiency.
