G6 GXP Announced!
GXP gets a 3.6-liter V6 that cranks out 275 hp
IT’S AS IF PONTIAC’S DESIGNERS INVITED YOU TO A FITTING – AND THEN BUILT THE G6 AROUND YOU. We designed the G6 driver’s environment with one goal in mind: to blur the line between machine and driver. Outward visibility is excellent. Standard features like a tilt and telescopic steering column and a power height adjustment for the driver’s seat make it easy to find the perfect driving position. Every instrument and switch is precisely where it should be and every control is ideally weighted. Experience G6 on your favourite stretch of two-lane blacktop and you’ll feel it’s an extension of your own body.

EXHILARATION FOR FIVE. Inside the G6, our goal was for driver involvement and passenger comfort to live together in harmony. The driver’s experience includes a wraparound cockpit and well-bolstered performance seating. But from the passenger point of view, the highlights of this interior are its spaciousness and refinement. A key element is the G6’s 2852 mm (112.3 in.) wheelbase – the longest in the class* – which creates a generously proportioned cabin with stretch-out rear legroom. The G6’s solid body structure contributes to a controlled, quiet ride, and there are premium materials and rich textures at touch points throughout the interior.

YOUR EYES, YOUR EARS AND THE SEAT OF YOUR PANTS AGREE. After five minutes behind the wheel, your pulse will tell you everything you need to know about the G6 Sport Sedan. We designed this to be one exciting car, with fluid lines, a world-class body structure, agile, fully independent suspension and up to 240 horsepower under the hood.

THEY WON’T BE ABLE TO TAKE THEIR EYES OFF IT. Visually, the new-for-2006 G6 Sport Coupe is a statement of refinement and power in perfect balance. Dynamically the same is true. Available in 201 horsepower GT and 240 horsepower GTP form, the G6 Sport Coupe is as invigorating to drive as it is inspiring to look at. Get in. And get ready to be the centre of attention.

LIVE OPEN MINDED. We created the exciting new G6 Convertible to open up a whole new world of driving bliss. In the process we managed to eliminate the age-old convertible compromises, too. In place of the traditional fabric top there’sa first-in-class power-operated folding steel roof – a feature normally found nlyon cars in the luxury roadster class. Look for the new G6 Convertible in early 2006.

HAPPINESS IS POWER TO SPARE. Abundant, responsive power is an essential part of the G6 experience. For 2006, there’s a choice of three different engines. For starters, there’s the highly refined 2.4L DOHC ECOTEC four-cylinder powerplant that’s standard on the G6 Sport Sedan. It generates 167 horsepower and delivers excellent power throughout its operating range, thanks to advanced features like variable valve timing (VVT). In the middle of the range there’s the responsive 201 horsepower 3.5L V6 that’s standard on G6 V6 and GT models. And for even more excitement, G6 GTP Sport Sedanand Sport Coupe are powered by a new 240 horsepower 3.9L V6 with VVT.

FRESH THINKING ABOUT FRESH AIR. For an example of the G6’s innovative nature, consider the available Panoramic Roof. Considerably larger than typical sunroofs, it’s also unique enough to have been granted multiple international patents. At the touch of a button the front glass panel tilts up to block drafts, then the rear three panels slide back in sequence to let you feel the sun on your face and the wind in your hair. The panels store above the roof when open, preserving interior headroom. How innovative is all this? The G6’s Panoramic Roof isn’t just the only four-panel sliding sunroof available in this class. It’s also the only roof of its kind available on any vehicle sold in North America.

PINPOINT CONTROL. How a car responds to the wheel when you first steer into a curve… the way it feeds back information through the wheel to the driver’s fingers… the feel of the pedal as you apply the brakes: at Pontiac, we know it’s subtleties like these that separate a true driver’s car from the rest of the pack. The G6 does it all superbly well. Its solid, computer-designed architecture, fully independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes all play their part. But it’s the way our engineers have fine-tuned all these systems that really makes the difference. The result is a car that’s less like a machine – and more like a partner.
AND IT’S MORE THAN JUST A FEELING. A reassuring sense of security comes with every G6. It’s the result of knowing that, when we designed and engineered your car, we had your safety very much in mind. It starts with the G6’s excellent all-around visibility, ergonomically designed controls and highly responsive chassis, all of which help you to steer clear of a collision whenever possible.

Should a collision prove unavoidable, G6’s many occupant protection features come into play. Energy-absorbing front and rear crush zones, a sturdy steel safety cage around the passenger compartment, front safety belt pre-tensioners and up to six air bags are just a few of the many G6 features dedicated to protecting you and your passengers in an accident.
