Full Torrent Review
An informative, well
reviewed page about the Pontiac Torrent including pictures
Torrent shares its car-type platform and drivetrain with the Chevrolet Equinox, though Torrent's suspension is tuned to impart a sportier feel. A 185-hp V6 with 5-speed automatic transmission is the sole powertrain. Antilock brakes are standard. Traction control is standard on the 2WD model. Available features include leather upholstery, heated front seats, satellite radio, and 17-inch wheels.
THE FREEDOM YOU CRAVE, THE COMFORTS YOU DESERVE. Torrent Sport
delivers the rugged performance and versatility you need along with the premium amenities you want. A six-way power driver’s seat, cruise control, a leatherwrapped steering wheel and a great-sounding AM/FM/CD stereo with MP3 payback capability are all standard. Who said comfort and capability couldn’t
go together in an affordable SUV?

IT’S THE NEXT BIG THING. Engineered and built right here in Canada, Torrent is one of the largest vehicles in its class. It’s a winner on looks, too, with long clean lines, a sure-footed stance and boldly styled details. And every Torrent features a standard V6 engine, a five-speed automatic transmission and performance that sets the standard for the segment. All of which raises the question: Why make do with less?

TORRENT IS BIG ON COMPANY. Any time you feel like inviting a few friends along for the ride, Torrent will make them feel right at home. Torrent’s longest-in-class 2857 mm (112.5 in.) wheelbase makes for a very accommodating passenger compartment. Riders will find entry and exit a breeze, thanks to Torrent’s sedan-like 443 mm (17.5 in.) step-in height. Your taller friends will enjoy the innovative Multi-Flex rear seat. It adjusts backwards and forwards along a 20 cm (8 in.) track, so you can choose maximum legroom or maximum cargo space, as the situation dictates. The Multi-Flex rear seat also reclines to offer your guests an extra measure of comfort.

WHEN YOU’RE HERE, YOU’RE IN CHARGE. At Pontiac, we’re all about vehicles that help drivers get the most out of their time behind the wheel. In Torrent, that means a driving environment dedicated to keeping you firmly in control.

A tilt adjustable steering wheel with indentations for your hands is part of the mix. So is a full array of cleanly styled analogue gauges, with soft red backlighting for easy nighttime viewing.

Other aspects of the Torrent driving environment show off our designers’ extraordinary attention to detail. Take the switches, for example. They’re designed to operate with a consistent, positive feel. Not only does that create a sense of impressive quality, it also encourages intuitive use, so you can make most adjustments without taking your eyes off the road. Now that’s control.

IS THERE ANYTHING TORRENT CAN’T DO? Camping, climbing, skiing, kayaking, biking: no matter how you slice it, they all take a lot of gear. That’s why we designed the multitalented Torrent with all the cargo-carrying versatility your active lifestyle demands. The 60/40 divided Multi-Flex rear seat and the front-passenger seat both fold forward, allowing you to carry objects up to 2.7 m (9 ft.) long in the security of the interior. With the rear seatbacks folded, Torrent can handle up to 1900 L (67.1 cu. ft.) of cargo.
Torrent's flat-folding rear and front passenger seatbacks make it a breeze to reconfigure the interior for almost any combination of passengers and cargo. The hard back of the flat-folding front-passenger seat can also double as a handy work table.

WRITE YOUR OWN RULE BOOK. With standard V6 power in a segment dominated by four-cylinder engines, Torrent lets you do things that drivers of most competitive vehicles can’t. Like accelerate from 0 – 96 km/h (60 mph) in less than 8.5 seconds – excellent performance for a vehicle in this class.

We engineered Torrent to be a pleasure to drive twelve months a year. Its rigid body-frame integral architecture, sport-tuned fully independent suspension and electric power steering all contribute to a kind of handling agility that few SUVs can match.

Of course, we also made sure that Torrent has what it takes to keep you on the move even when the weather has other drivers stuck indoors. There’s a choice of front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrains, and every Torrent comes equipped with large all-season tires and a ground clearance of 201 mm (7.9 in.).

Think of it this way. For Torrent drivers, bad weather is overruled.

A STUDY IN SAFETY. We designed Torrent with excellent visibility, ergonomic controls and agile handling, all to help keep you in control. We also engineered it to provide serious protection for those times when a situation can’t be avoided. In fact, Torrent was awarded five-star ratings by the U.S. National Highway Transportation Safety Agency (NHTSA) for its performance in both frontal and side-impact crashes.
